Vendor scorecard metrics that reflect delivered work

A useful scorecard links the supplier review to agreed scope and the actual jobs delivered during the period.

The short answer

A service vendor scorecard can track on-time attendance, completion against scope, response to priority work, evidence completeness, repeat issues, unresolved exceptions and invoice accuracy. Define each metric, denominator and review period, then pair the numbers with documented context and minimum sample size.

Avoid false precision

Three jobs do not support the same conclusion as three hundred. Show volume beside percentages and separate customer-caused access problems from vendor-controlled misses.

Tie the scorecard to a decision

Every metric should inform coaching, remediation, scope, renewal or allocation. If nobody can describe the action a metric changes, remove it from the regular review.

A practical process

  1. List the contract outcomes and service standards to review.
  2. Define each metric, denominator, exclusions and data owner.
  3. Review volume, exceptions and evidence with the vendor.
  4. Record agreed actions and revisit them at the next period.

Questions about vendor scorecard metrics that reflect delivered work

What is a good vendor score?

There is no universal score. Set expectations from contract, service risk and baseline performance, and interpret percentages with job volume and context.

Should price be part of the scorecard?

Commercial value matters, but keep price, service quality and risk visible as separate dimensions so one does not hide the others.

How often should vendors be reviewed?

Match the cadence to service volume, risk and contract cycle. High-volume or high-risk work may need monthly review; lower-volume relationships may align to quarterly or renewal review.
